Winnie's Hayloft
The Scenario
Winnie's Hayloft is a lovely holiday cottage located in Brecon, South Wales.
When tourism shut down because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was decided that it was the right time to refresh and modernise their current website.
This modernisation involved adding an availability calendar and gallery to showcase the cottage and what you can expect from staying there.
The new website helped to promote the cottage once the travel restrictions had been lifted and they were able to start accepting guests again.
How We Helped
Project Scope
Through our discovery process, we learnt that we would need to implement a bespoke solution for Winnie's Hayloft. Because not only did they want to be able to update the content on the website, but it would also have to link up with external software to show the availability.
Overall the website would need to:
- Be regularly updated with new content by using Silverstripe
- Have a gallery that highlights the cottage
- Have an availability calendar linked through a third-party
- Have a visitor's book that can be updated with reviews of the cottage
Challenges
We encountered a few challenges when working on this project. The main one was ease of use, because of the age of the owners and the limited time they would have to update the content. Because of this, we had to make the editing process as easy as possible.
The second challenge we encountered was that we had to make sure we incorporated the local area into the design of the site. Because Brecon is a very scenic area, it was agreed that this would be carried through into the design of the site, but it was up to us to make it happen.
A third challenge was linking with the third-party software that did not have an API that we could use for the linking process. Because of this, we had to think on our feet and come up with a bespoke solution that would allow us to show the availability.
